Fun Events Near Lake Michigamme Shores

A fairly sizable portion of the shoreline along Lake Michigan is girdled by the Upper Peninsula. A nice centralized location to set up camp to experience one of America's most spectacular rustic wilderness settings is an interior lake called Lake Michigamme.

One nice thing about targeting this location is the Lake Michigamme Shores Campground Resort. Not only are there dozens of adventures and fun events nearby, there's a number of things happening right at that location.

There are year-round events on the calendar, but we're going to focus on fun things to do throughout the traditional summer season. Let's take a look at some fun events held at the campground itself, plus other things you won't want to miss during your visit to Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Lake Michigamme Shores Campground Resort Events

The first set of events to put on your schedule when you stay at the Lake Michigamme Shores Campground Resort is especially staged for the children. Each Saturday, weather permitting; the campground holds three events for the kids.

These three events are great for families, but no one gets left out at the Lake Michigamme Shores Campground Resort. Towards the end of the summer season, there are a pair of special events everyone will enjoy.

This year Iron Daisy will entertain everyone for four hours from the campground beach. There are games for kids and adults, plus everyone can learn about camping safety from park rangers and local EMTs.

Winners are awarded prizes, but everyone walks away happy. There is a food sampling tour around the campground, plus a trick-or-treat experience for the kids. To conclude the chili festival and say goodbye to summer, there will be a spectacular fireworks display.

Other Lake Michigamme Area Events

Even though there are some special events around Lake Michigamme you won't want to miss, there's a variety of things to do spread across the calendar. Here are some other events to put on your calendar when you stay at the Lake Michigamme Shores Campground Resort.

Rangers are knowledgeable in all things Upper Peninsula. You can learn about the Native American history so prevalent across the region, or hear rangers tell stories about real-life moose and bear encounters. Campers can walk to this event by following a short trail.

If you've never kayaked before, or want to improve your kayaking skills, this is a super event to attend. Equipment is available to the first 12, plus it's free. You'll learn the basics on the beach, and then expert kayakers will give kayaking tips.

You learn how to stay safe on the water in a kayak, plus the difference between different types of kayaks and their different uses. Everyone finishes the day with a guided tour along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigamme.

The event held at Michigamme Park and kicks off with a parade starting at Main and Gaylord Streets. The parade begins at 11:00AM. Later in the day, there is a spectacular boat parade, which launches at 5:00PM.

Following the boat parade, guests will be entertained by live music. There is food, fun and games all throughout the day. If cribbage is your thing, there is a tournament starting at 6:00PM in the community building.

There is a musical style for almost everyone. Live acts play everything from bluegrass to traditional-styles indicative of the Native American heritage of the area. This is a three-day event held the middle of July.

One nice thing about the Hiawatha Music Festival is that you can continue with your camping expedition. There are spaces for basic tents and screen rooms, or you bring your camper or full-size RV.

Even if you're not a hardcore bike rider, there is a 5K fun ride through a spectacular wilderness setting. There are actually five different distances to choose, or you can opt for the off-trail mountain bike Dirty Thirty 30K across rugged terrain.

Most visitors who travel to Michigan's Upper Peninsula come with an initial objective to witness the spectacular splendor of nature. However, while there are miles of wilderness adventures to explore, there are a bunch of fun events to enjoy as well.
